MODEL FOR DETERMINING THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF VEHICLES SERVING A ROUTE IN URBAN PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Silvia Assenova, Mirena Todorova The realization of urban transport needs for a certain passenger flow to have such an interval between vehicles that provides the necessary carrying capacity and comfort of the journey. This paper examines the provision of vehicles on a public transport route depending on the size of the passenger flow served in different time ranges. The main problem to be solved in the operation of the route lines the carrier to provide it with a minimum number of vehicles. The study aims to build a model for the provision of services on a route line by mathematical linear optimization to minimize the number of vehicles. The model is implemented using Microsoft - Excel function Solver by obtaining not only the minimum number of vehicles but also the period of their movement on the route line. The Microsoft - Excel developed model is applied to bus line 404 of the metropolitan public transport by considering the change of the passenger flow on the line in different time ranges, determining the d number of vehicles and the period when they will operate on the route line. The model can be applied to all regular services.
