AUTOMATIC CALCULATION OF THE PARAMETERS OF LINEAR ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS VIA AC ANALYSIS BY THE USE OF EXCEL

Simona Petrakieva, Borislav Boychev

Each periodical signal with period 2 can be presented by Fourier transformation. Then the analysis of the behaviour of linear electric circuits relegates to solving one DC problem and a set of AC problems with sinusoidal sources. In the present paper it suggests automatic calculation of the complex resistances Z in electrical circuits and determining the branch current by Thevenin’s theorem, based on the experimental measured currents, voltages and active powers. It uses symbolic method for analysis, using mathematical basic of complex numbers. Calculations are made by the use of Excel, because in this way it visualizes in table form as well the results from measurements as the current calculated complex quantities. Thus, based on the results for the complex resistances Z in the considered electrical circuit it makes conclusions about the type of real elements (resistors, coils and capacitors), d there.

The measurements are made on the lab “AC analysis of linear electric circuits”, carrying out in the course “Theory of Electrical Engineering” in the homonymous department in Technical University of Sofia.

The paper is prepared with educational purpose to help the students in preparering and defending their laboratory assignments.
