![]() INTERRELATION BETWEEN ROAD CONDITIONS AND ROAD ACCIDENTS WITHIN THE NATIONAL ROAD NETWORK IN THE REGION OF PLOVDIV
Valentin Nikolov1, Atanas Tashkov2 To search for and clarify the reasons and prerequisites for the occurrence of multiple road accidents within certain road sections, we make an assessment of the road conditions (mainly the geometric elements and features of the road and traffic load by type of motor vehicles and volume).
Statistical data of road accidents in the region of Plovdiv is applied, as the location of road accidents is compared to the location of danger areas by the method of “relative accidence incidence rate”. In the analysis of this data and their comparison to the sections with multiple road accidents, we come to the conclusion that they are roads with high intensity of traffic, with diverse condition of road surface, of horizontal marking and vertical signalization. The reasons for road accidents mainly acceleration of speed inconsistent with road and weather conditions, inadequate concentration of the driver on the road, fatigue, lack of observation of the necessary distance, improper overtaking.
