The freeways are the most important components of road infrastructure. The difference of nearly a century (87) between the completion of the first highway in the world (Milan - Varese) and the first Bulgarian motorway (Liulin) makes obligatory depth technical economic analysis of the characteristics of highway construction in Bulgaria. Conclusions are essential for the present and future of this specific type of construction, which has significant influence the overall development of the country.
