The purpose of this paper is to present some of the possibilities of the Add-In tool MS Excel Solver as a means for solving optimization tasks in the

transportation field. To achieve this purpose, using an empirical data from [3], a numerical example is solved, in which by using MS Excel Solver

the least squares method is applied to estimate the unknown parameters of a one-factor linear regression model, chosen for analytical description

of the relationship between the random quantities "tram speed" and "average distance between tram stations".
