This paper presents an example for the application of the statistical methods correlation and regression analysis in the transportation studies. Using sample statistical data and applying the least squares method the regression coefficients of a regression equation describing the relationship between passengers? average travel time from home to work by private cars during peak hour and the total number of the registered private cars have been calculated. For the purposes of the example are also calculated and considered Pearson?s correlation coefficient and the coefficient of determination, also known in statistics as R-square, showing what part of the predicted Y values? variation in the established regression equation are explained by the variation of the values of the factor X.
