Conventional Transmission Power Control And Ssdt Power Control At 3g Cellular System

Stiliyan Paunov

TPC (Transmission Power Control) is key to a high-capacity and reliable CDMA cellular system. Uplink TPC is required to combat the near-far problem because the base stations receive uplink signals that are asynchronous and nonorthogonal. Downlink TPC, however, is mainly used to reduce the transmission power used by base stations. In both uplinks and downlinks, TPC reduces intercell interference and thus increases system capacity. This paper describes SSDT (Site Selection Diversity Technique) power control, an advanced form of downlink TPC that can solve the problems incurred when conventional TPC is used. The principles of SSDT power control and conventional TPC are compared in the paper also.
