The generalized boundary element method is shortly described for the static analysis of plane

bodies with cracks. An energy approach is applied for the calculation of SIF for one or multiple

parallel cracks. Few numerical examples are solved and comparison is made with results available

from the literature. Analysis is made for the applicability of the method when the main crack

is surrounded by a system of micro-cracks.
