This article examines the financial and economic dimensions of information technology (IT) investments in the transport sector and how they can contribute to business development. The main benefits of these investments reducing operating costs, increasing efficiency and productivity, improving customer service and reducing risks. Despite the significant upfront costs and risks associated with cyber security and rapid technology obsolescence, IT investments have the potential to increase competitiveness and long-term returns for transport companies. The paper highlights the need for careful planning, needs analysis and risk assessment to successfully implement IT solutions.

It is argued that in the long run, IT investments not only increase the economic efficiency of transport companies, but also create opportunities for innovation and business growth as a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for their competitiveness at national and international level.
