CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TRANSPORT CONNECTIVITY PROGRAM FOR THE PERIOD 2021-2027 AND ITS IMPACT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TRANSPORT SECTOR

Bulgaria`s transport infrastructure is being built, developed, expanded, modernized as a result of significant investments, provided both mainly from European sources and from national funding.

Over the years, funds have been provided by several European programs directly aimed at the development of the transport sector, as one of the most dynamic and important for the country`s economy.

The operational program ”Transport connectivity which is implemented for the program period 2021-2027. has an approved financial resource of almost two billion BGN. These funds will be used for innovations in transport, intermodality, implementation of projects related mainly to railway and road infrastructure, investments in water transport, as well as to reduce harmful emissions from transport.

Through the investment activities, the use of environmentally friendly modes of transport and alternative fuels will be stimulated to achieve an important goal related to reducing the harmful impact on the environment.

The report describes the transport connectivity program for the period 2021-2027, which will support the construction of the Trans-European transport network and the integration of the national transport network with that of the European Union.

The main objective is to promote multimodality, increase transport safety, accelerate digitalization and influence the reduction of harmful emissions generated by the transport sector.
