Railway traffic and transport occupy an increasing position on the transport market. The need for transportation primarily of goods and products from industrial centers to large sales facilities is increasingly pronounced after the virus pandemic and current war events in the area. The population expects from the state a constant supply and affordable prices in accordance with a standard that is currently not at a high level. The railway, as a carrier, is the most favorable and cheapest provider of the service based on the available infrastructure and train capacities. The improvement of traffic and transportation systems can be influenced by the application of modern information systems. This paper presents an analysis of railway information systems with a proposal for improvement. For the introduction of information systems, the complexity of tasks related to a large number of data must be analyzed, as well as their mutual exchange. This approach implies the creation of a formal order that is necessary for data to be found, processed and, if necessary, used. The interconnection of multiple records forms a data structure that can be independent of individual programs with the basic role of meeting the current and future needs of both individuals and groups of users for information. The application of advanced Internet technologies in railway traffic and transport can improve traditional business, where mainly the necessary information is collected in direct communication between the employees of the railway company in the official premises and the users. The main goal of this paper is to present the current state and upgrade of existing information systems for obtaining the necessary information. The analysis and processing of the received information directs and conditions the railway company to make concrete decisions to increase the quality of the transport service.
