CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR TRANSPORT SECTOR COMPANIES IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF 5G TECHNOLOGIES. (ON THE HORIZON: 5G IN TRANSPORT)

The report aims to present, in general, the expected impact on the enterprises in the transport sector on a global scale, related to the penetration of 5G technologies in the world economy. For this purpose, the future 5G technological transformation and the expected economic consequences of it at the macro level are considered, and on the other hand, the expected challenges and opportunities in this regard, which companies will face at the relevant micro level. The technical and economic directions of development presented in the report are a sample of all those carried out, based on the degree of importance for enterprises in the transport sector, structured by types of communication solutions and the expected economic impact of them. The formulated specific challenges and opportunities are derived from the author”s research work on his dissertation over the past two years.

In conclusion, the emergence of 5G can be assumed to be a turning point in the evolution of mobile devices, from primarily end-user technologies, to a technology platform aimed primarily at corporate solutions that promote business innovation and stimulate economic growth in general.

At the same time, in order to achieve their economic goals, all participants in the process must make a real assessment and take immediate, strategic development actions in order to make the most of the expected potential and the near horizon of what is already happening, 5G technological change.
