Following evaluation and public consultations, in 2021 the European Comission published proposal for new directions of the policy for development of the Trans-European transport network (TEN-T). The aim of the proposed new regulations is the development of an efficient European multy-modal transport network of high quality standards, contributing to the creation of an effective and sustainable European transpor area.

The aims and the grounds of the TEN-T policy revaluation are summarised in the proposed report and represent the challenges placed by European Green Pact, the Strategy for sustainable and smart mobility, as well as the found problemsin the development and management of the TEN-T. The report summarises the new elements of the policy for development of the TEN-T and the related new ments for the railway sector. The last chapter of the report presents the results of the analysis of the impact of the new directions for development of the TEN-T on the Bulgarian railway network. This report is also focused on the factors which cumulatively generate new problems, challenges and risks, while on the other hand, reveal new advantageous possibilities for development. Finally, it summarises the main risks, potential possibilities and necessary activities for the development of the national railway network resulting from the new directions for the growth of the TEN-T.
