The report aims to present the current state of safety of the railway system in the Republic of Bulgaria in the context of railway transport at the level of the European Union. A systematic approach has been used to meet the ments of the relevant European and national legislation by the Infrastructure Manager. The safety objectives and the performance of the planned safety measures in the railway system are analyzed. The main regulatory ments for the development and improvement of railway safety in the Union are considered. The National Reference Values for the different risk categories used to calculate the common safety targets are presented, comparing the values of the Member States. An analysis of the common safety indicators in the Republic of Bulgaria has been made by using a common method for safety techniques, which assesses the achievement of the safety targets. Common problems affecting safety in the railway system are described, and the relevant conclusions and recommendations are made for increasing the level of safety in the railway system of Bulgaria.
