In today`s world, rail is regarded as one of the factors for sustainable development. In the conditions of economic crisis, one of the appropriate measures is the revision and innovative transformation of the business models of the enterprises, which will have a favorable effect on the economy of the country. In particular, after an economic analysis of the railways` business model in an innovative way, its transformation can be proposed. This creates the opportunity, as soon as possible and with reasonably invested resources, to take measures to deal with the economic crisis in Bulgaria after the pandemic of COVYD 19. The economic analysis of the railway business model in Bulgaria is carried out in six directions. The answers to the questions are explored: why, who, what, where, when and how (H 5W). On the basis of these studies, the way of changing and transforming the business model, including the implementation measures, is determined.
