This report reviews the mental-physical performance of train operators (alt. Locomotive engineers) in the Locomotive Simulator of “Todor Kableshkov”University of Transport in Sofia. Ten (10) train operators from the Sofia Locomotive Depot were tested. 26 tests were developed in order to evaluate and facilitate improvement of their mental and physical capabilities of the practicing Train Operators in conditions most closely emulating real operational environment. Each test begins with instruction briefing and completes with an evaluation. The evaluation is mostly based upon criteria that are both understandable to the participants and fundamental to “human-machine”systems: average reaction time, reliability of reaction (share of correct answers or actions to the given task). Also studied were Attention Distribution, Accuracy, Operative Memory, and Information Parametrics (Information Processing and Resilience). Results are presented as tables and charts.Analysis and conclusions are provided for each of the mental-physical evaluations.
