![]() HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE - MENTS, FEATURES, AND CHARACTERISTICS
Yuri Todorov, Zlatin Krumov, Svetoslava Dimitrova The concept of high-speed railways is in fact confirmed in 1964, when Japan`s first of its kind specialized high-speed railway (Tokyo-Osaka) was put into operation. This event initiates constructors and specialists working in the field of transport systems to look for ever- more effective solutions for faster and more secure means of transport. High-speed trains have clear advantages over other modes when it comes to mass transit of passengers for up to 700-800 kilometers in seated wagons, and at a distance of 1500-2000 kilometers in sleeping carriages, while still providing the necessary level of safety and comfort. With the expansion of high-speed railways in many European and Asian countries, there is a redistribution of passengers in favor of high-speed rail transport because of its high degree of reliability, zero emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and safety. It also significantly decreases the travel time as a result of the high speed and since passenger services on both departure and arrival are close to the city center. The report describes the parameters (differences in them design and construction) of high-speed railways compared to the conventional tracks. The part concerned with the construction of the upper railway track has been developed in great detail - the application of other types of elements of the upper construction - rails, sleepers, elastic fasteners, railway switches. Special attention is also paid to the modern methods for management and control based on integrated systems. Various options for the exploitation of high-speed sections, in particular, in existing gauges, deviating from the normal (1435 mm), have been considered in several countries.The development of high-speed railways in Europe is followed. Data for some non-European countries is available as well.
