THE IMPORTANCE OF COMBINED TRANSPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE IN BULGARIA
Mira Zafirova The socio-economic changes in Bulgaria in 1989 led to the restructuring of the economy of the state. As a result of the market many new companies appeared on the site of the former economic sites, which led to the fragmentation of the production capacities of a number of enterprises. Road transport proved to be suitable for transporting small volumes. The railroad transport, as the main competitor of the car, suffered considerable losses - reduction of the volumes transported, respectively reduction of revenues from infrastructural charges for the railway infrastructure
The accession of Bulgaria to the EU as well as the geographic situation of the country are factors that the development of the transport infrastructure in the country despite the social and economic changes in Bulgaria after 1989. Transport and communications generate 11.7% of the gross value added of the country and provide direct employment to over 138,000 people. The development of the Operational Program ”Transport 2007-2013” (OPTT 2007-2013) and the Operational Program ”Transport and Transport Infrastructure” (OPTTI 2014-2020) in the last years is focused on the development of combined transport.
