In the operation of ships, maritime organizations establish rules and standards, most often established on the basis of criteria that are insufficiently scientifically substantiated. The penetration of innovative technologies with the advanced use of electronics and computerization in ship electrical power systems (SEPS) creates prerequisites for deterioration of electrical energy quality (EEQ), electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and energy efficiency (EE). This necessitates the formulation of modern concepts, concepts and approaches in order to streamline and optimize the various energy processes in SEPS. The implementation of a complex expert approach is based on the belief that in addition to creating highly effective and practicable regulatory ments, maritime organizations need to carry out their work by implementing progressive design solutions using high levels of automation and computerization of engineering work. An important part of the presented research is an author`s approach for improvement of the EEDI Energy Efficiency Index by including parameters that takes into account low power quality of the electric power. Thus, a quantitative estimate of the cause of the index`s deterioration is possible, which takes into account not only its value but also the percentage ratio between the individual partitions of non-active power. The proposed methodology can offer different types of technical means for improvement of power quality - capacitive type reactive power compensation systems, passive filters, active filters, symmetrical devices and assessment of the efficiency of their deployment. Subsequently, it is possible to recalculate the resultant energy efficiency index, which is compared with that obtained without the use of additional technical devices.
