![]() OPTIMIZATION OF CAR TRAFFIC FLOW ON INTERSECTIONS REGULATED BY TRAFFIC LIGHTS THROUGH THE SIMULATION ENVIRONMENT AIMSUN
Yordanka Boneva The article explores the possibility of improvement of traffic along Shipchenski Prohod Blvd. Dynamic microsimulation is performed. Changes have been made to the green signal settings for the traffic lights on the boulevard and the small streets crossing the boulevard. The hypothesis is that there are traffic light settings that are better than actual ones and that will improve traffic patterns along the boulevard. Moreover, this new settings can be identified by simulation. This study is needed because of the increasing traffic load in Sofia [1]. The study is conducted using the AIMSUN (Advanced Interactive Microscopic Simulator for Urban and Non-Urban Networks) simulation software [2]. Ten traffic indicators for a network of four intersections on Shipchenski Prohod Blvd are compared for different settings of the green signal for the traffic lights on the boulevard and for the traffic lights of the small streets. The results prove the hypothesis that there are better settings for the traffic lights that improve the 10 selected traffic indicators for the intersection network, which settings are experimentally found by a simulation.
