INNOVATIONS IN RAILWAYS MATERIALS – EXTENSION OF OPERATIONAL LIFE OF PRE-STRESSED REINFORCED CONCRETE SLEEPERS
Dimitar Andreev In recent years many leading companies such as voestalpine VAE Sofia, Vossloh, Getzner and others have begun to offer reinforced concrete sleepers with assembled pads of processed tires for protection of the ballast bed from destruction, for increasing the bearing capacity of the railway superstructure, for reducing the operating costs and extending the sleepers life. Data on this type of new sleeper construction are presented from trial sections in Bulgaria and abroad.
