Transport forwarding as an intermediary activity arose at the turn of the XVIII-XIX centuries at the intersection of two spheres of commercial activity - transport and trade, as a result of the emergence of public transport (railways and line navigation). In the independent infrastructure of international transport, it was transformed in the 80-90”s. XX century and is an entrepreneurial activity in the organization of the transportation of goods by any means of transport, registration of shipping documents, documents for customs purposes and other documents, as well as the implementation of a forwarder on the basis of a freight forwarder contract for the organization of transportation. Thus, the transport-forwarding activity has three components: transport, forwarding and intermediary.

The selection of thematic groups in a specific subject area is carried out on the basis of extra linguistic factors and is a kind of its inventory. On this basis, the terms of transport forwarding are grouped into three main thematic groups, ”Transport Activity”, ”Expeditionary Activity” and ”Intermediary Activities”, eight thematic subgroups and twenty thematic micro groups. Proceeding from the selected thematic groups forming this terminology, it can be judged that by its content and form it is not absolutely new. The nuclear part of it can be considered to be the terms of the thematic group ”Expeditionary activity”, and its construction was based on the principle of combining fragments of transport and trade terminology.
