BEST PRACTICES FOR THE APPLICATION OF SOLAR POWERED VEHICLES IN PERFORMING THE STRATEGY OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TRANSPORT SYSTEM

The sustainable development of transport and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is related to the use of alternative energy sources, one of which is solar energy. The term ”solar energy” is used as an indication for equipment installed on different types of vehicles to attract sunlight, and the article reviews the possibilities of practical application of solar energy in transport operations. In this connection, in the broad sense, the term ”solar transport means” is also used, whereby solar energy is used as an alternative source needed both for commissioning, but also for the implementation of on-board and remote control and connection as well as for fulfilling auxiliary functions such as air conditioning, lighting etc.

Solar energy has long been applied for traditional urban-powered vehicles (trams and trolleys). The survey of solar powered vehicles s bicycles, motorcycles, cars for private use and public transport services as well as solar buses. Photovoltaic panels in railway transport are mainly applicable to freight wagons, and they are also in use in water borne transport as well as in aircraft transport vehicle..

Despite the relatively high investment costs and other weaknesses, the prospects for solar transport are good and the effects proven. At the same time, there are certain limitations for the use of photovoltaic cells in transport. The article does not focus on technical aspects of solar energy application.
