The development of railway infrastructure in the country, according to the transport politics of the European Union, will lead to the transfer of cargo from motor to railway transport/ change of motor cargo transport with railway transport, as well as to decrease in private motor vehicles usage. The railway infrastructure development is a factor that influences the railway transport services. The infrastructure improvement leads to the provision of quality, safe and competitive service not only to the passengers but to railway cargo transporters as well. This article will examine and analyze the railway infrastructure in Bulgaria and the trends in railway transportation of passengers and cargo.
