TRAIN RUNNING ON HORIZONTAL CURVES - THE CANT DEFICIENCY AND EXCESS

The movement of trains on horizontal curves is associated with a number of events: an extension of track gauge in curves with small radiuses, cant on the external rail, appearance, action and disappearance of forces, variable balance between both centrifugal and centripetal accelerations, onset, development and damping of vibration and oscillate forces.

They should all be taken into consideration in the design of track geometry and track different rails. Lately in Bulgaria again talked about deficiency and excess cant in train running on horizontal curves and its inclusion in the "Standards for the design of railway lines" or Regulation 55 as it is now called.
