As a result of the planned major reconstructive activities in Operational program „Transport and Infrastructure” should be increased speed of trains on the main railway lines and thus to decrease the time needed to travel between the main railway junctions in our country. After realizing the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the railway line, express trains will travel from Sofia to Burgas for 4 hours. After the rehabilitation of the line from Mezdra to Varna, time needed to travel on trains from Sofia to Varna will be reduced to six hours. If built new railway crossing Stara Planina near Botevgrad, express trains from Sofia to Varna will travel only 5 hours.
