EUROPE`S PATH TO CLIMATE AND CARBON NEUTRALITY
Katya Ganchovska The European Union has set a goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 in accordance with the Paris Agreement, to attain climate neutrality and help prevent climate change. The European Climate Law makes the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 mandatory. This target became legally binding with the adoption of the legislative act on climate, which also provides for a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
Through the Fit for 55 legislative package, the European Union is taking action to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change and environmental degradation are a threat to the future of Europe and the world. EU countries are working towards a transition to a net zero emission economy, and the rules of the European Green Deal are driving the shift toward a climate-neutral economy and society. The ambition is for Europe to become the world`s first climate-neutral continent by 2050. To achieve this goal, the EU is initiating the adoption of a significant volume of new European legislation that will cover all sectors of the EU economy and its decarbonization. климат и околна среда климатична неутралност въглеродна неутралност пакет „Подготвени за цел 55“climate and environment climate neutrality carbon neutrality Fit for 55 packageKatya Ganchovska BIBLIOGRAPHY [1] The Paris Agreement on climate change / European Green Deal [2] The European Commission [3] Reglament (ES) 2021/1119 za sazdavane na ramkata za postigane na neutralnost po otnoshenie na klimata i za izmenenie na reglamenti (EO) № 401/2009 i (ES) 2018/1999 („Evropeyski zakon za klimata“) ( [3] Регламент (ЕС) 2021/1119 за създаване на рамката за постигане на неутралност по отношение на климата и за изменение на регламенти (ЕО) № 401/2009 и (ЕС) 2018/1999 („Европейски закон за климата“) ) [4] Council of the European Union |
